Singapore shares open lower on Thursday

SINGAPORE share prices opened 0.51 per cent lower on Thursday with the Straits Times Index down 16.67 points to 3,262.28 at 9.05 am.

Among the highest value traded stocks were Singtel (down seven Singapore cents to S$3.72); DBS (down four Singapore cents to S$20.35) and Singapore Press Holdings (up two Singapore cents to S$2.87).

Overall, 61.3 million shares worth S$115.8 million changed hands. Gainers outnumbered losers 75 to 52.

On Wall Street, US stocks finished higher on Wednesday after Federal Reserve policymakers hinted at a slower pace to future interest rate hikes. But Tokyo stocks opened lower on Thursday, with banks in retreat after the announcement.
