STI opens down as DJIA trades in rarefied air
SINGAPORE'S Straits Times Index opened 0.3 per cent lower on Wednesday, retreating 9.78 points to 3,236.3 as at 9.03am as all three major US stock indices finished at records for the second straight session.
Some 80.4 million shares changed hands, with trades totalling S$56.9 million in value. Gainers outnumbered losers 63 to 55.
Miyoshi, Jiutian Chemical and Yangzijiang Shipbuilding were among top gainers.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average ended at 0.4 per cent up at 22,641.67, after airline and automotive stocks rallied following major hurricanes in the US as people sought to replace hundreds of thousands of flooded vehicles.
