[TAIPEI] Taiwan stocks rose 0.41 per cent on Friday, largely in line with other regional bourses as a ceasefire in Ukraine assuaged investor nerves about the volatile region.

As of 0206 GMT, the main TAIEX index rose 39.03 points to 9,535.34, after closing up 0.36 per cent on Thursday.

The accord signed between major forces in the Ukraine conflict will see a ceasefire begin on Feb 15, removing a major source of uncertainty in the global geopolitical landscape.

Taiwan's electronics subindex was up 0.44 per cent, boosted by computer manufacturer and Apple Inc supplier Compal Electronics, which rose 2.2 per cent.

Semiconductors rose 0.56 per cent, while flat panels notched a 0.59 per cent gain.

Plastics gained 0.74 per cent, while paper and pulp rose 0.29 per cent.

The Taiwan dollar was up T$0.160 to stand at T$31.470 to the US dollar.
