Takata shares tumble to near 7-year low as recall expanded

[TOKYO] Takata Corp shares plunged 10.2 per cent to the lowest level since March 2009 after US regulators announced on Friday a fresh recall of 5 million vehicles equipped with its potentially defective air bag inflators.

The new action covers some automakers not previously affected and brings the total number of recalled air bag inflators to 28 million and was prompted in part by a 10th death linked to Takata's air bag inflators, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said.
