US: Dow, S&P surge into record territory after Japan stimulus


[NEW YORK] The Dow and S&P 500 surged into fresh record territory in opening trade on Friday after the Bank of Japan's surprise stimulus move lifted global equity markets.

Four minutes into trade, the Dow Jones Industrial Average stood at 17,348.48, up 153.06 points (0.89 per cent), about 60 points above its closing record.

The S&P 500 rose 19.08 (0.96 per cent) to 2,013.73, while the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite Index was up 65.97 (1.44 per cent) to 4,632.11.
