US: Stocks end higher after Trump tariffs move; Dow +0.4%

[NEW YORK] US stocks finished a volatile session higher on Thursday after President Donald Trump enacted controversial tariffs on imported steel and aluminium amid worries the move could ignite a global trade war.

At the closing bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average stood at 24,897.69, up 0.4 per cent.

The broad-based S&P 500 gained 0.5 per cent to 2,739.32, while the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite Index advanced 0.4 per cent to 7,425.63.
