China blocks Facebook's WhatsApp in censorship drive

The move comes as the government prepares for the 19th Communist Party Congress, a politically sensitive event

In China, WhatsApp is used by a relatively smaller number of people than Tencent's WeChat, but it is preferred by some because it is deemed to be less closely monitored than its Chinese rival.
