Google fails to overturn Microsoft's US$14.5m jury victory
[WASHINGTON] Google Inc failed to overturn a US$14.5 million jury verdict won by Microsoft Corp in a dispute over royalties for patents used in Xbox game players and Windows operating systems.
The US Court of Appeals in San Francisco refused to set aside findings that Google breached contracts that required it to license industry-standard patents at fair rates.
The case is part of the global debate over how much companies should charge for the use of patents that are folded into industry standards.
