Malaysia Airlines flight hits severe turbulence, injuring passengers and crew
[KUALA LUMPUR] Severe turbulence on a Malaysia Airlines Berhad (MAB) flight to Kuala Lumpur on Sunday (Jun 5) left several passengers and cabin crew injured.
A statement released on the airline's Facebook account said flight MH1, an Airbus A380 aircraft which was en route to Kuala Lumpur from London, encountered severe turbulence over the Bay of Bengal, leaving some passengers with "minor injuries".
According to Malaysian newspaper The Star, around 34 people were injured.
MAB said medical crew and the airline's senior management met the aircraft on arrival at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport at around 6.10 pm.
"A small number of affected passengers and crew have been treated by medical officers", the statement added. "Malaysia Airlines has assisted the 378 passengers and crew onboard MH1 and sincerely apologises for any inconvenience caused by this weather event."
