Singapore's Malay chamber of commerce to hold business missions to 8 countries this year
THE Singapore Malay Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SMCCI) said on Monday that it will hold business missions to eight countries in 2018, with the support of government agency International Enterprise Singapore.
The missions are meant to give small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) insight into global industry trends as well as the market conditions and business opportunities overseas. The participants will be able to attend seminars and take part in networking sessions.
Dainial Sani Lim, chairman of SMCCI's programmes and internationalisation committee, said in a statement: "As internationalisation becomes the leading engine of growth for Singapore companies and with the strong support by the government for businesses to expand overseas, it is important for SMEs to look beyond Singapore in order to grow and to maintain their competitiveness."
Chamber president Shamir Rahim added: "Through our business missions, we hope to provide companies with a platform to increase their connectivity in Asean and beyond, with the aim of sustainable international expansion."
SMCCI's first international business mission this year will be to the Philippine capital of Manila, from March 19 to 21.
The food and beverage, and the consultancy and services sectors are among those that will be represented by the companies in attendance, the chamber said.
