MONEY laundering accused Su Wenqiang returned to court on Wednesday (Jan 31), two days after his last court appearance, and was handed two new charges for attempting to fraudulently obtain work passes in Singapore.

The first charge stated that the accused in February 2022 applied for an employment pass, and declared that he was employed as a sales director by Fleur Business Service.

However, he allegedly had no intention to be employed by this company.

The second charge stated that he had engaged in a conspiracy in February 2022 with an individual known as “Wen Wen” to obtain a work pass for one Su Yanping, purported to be his wife.

Su Wenqiang allegedly had instructed “Wen Wen” to apply for an employment pass on Su Yanping’s behalf and declare in the application that she would be employed by Ju You Family Office.

However, Su Yanping was not employed there, the charge sheet said.

Su Wenqiang, who is one of the 10 foreign nationals embroiled in the more than S$3 billion money laundering case, now faces 11 charges in Singapore court.

Eight of the other nine charges are related to money laundering, using proceeds generated from an unlawful remote gambling service in the Philippines.

Two were handed to him in August 2023, after he was arrested in an islandwide money laundering probe, while the other six were read in court on Monday.

He also faces a charge for forging a Chinese marriage certificate stating he had married Su Yanping in China in 2018, when no such marriage registration was made.

The forgery charge, which was handed to him on Monday, noted that the certificate was intended to be fraudulently used in a Dependant’s Pass application to Singapore’s Manpower Ministry.

Su Wenqiang, who holds passports from Cambodia, China and Vanuatu, is in remand, as his last bail application on Nov 2, 2023, was denied.

He will return to court on Feb 1 for a pre-trial conference.
