Banks' surge swells July market cap
DBS makes largest gains in dollar terms, its peers follow closely
THE value of Singapore's stock market in July rose 1.3 per cent from the previous month to S$979 billion, lifted mainly by strong gains in shares of the three banks.
Singapore's market value is skewed by gains in shares of listed companies from the financial sector, showed data compiled and analysed by The Business Times. The total market capitalisation of that sector stood at S$214 billion, translating to about 20 per cent of Singapore's total market value. All in, the sector's market value rose S$8.3 billion, or 4.1 per cent.
The second-largest sector by market value is that of commerce, with the market cap of trade-related firms making up just over 15 per cent of Singapore's total market cap.
