Good corporate governance helps businesses become more successful

THE most difficult concept for businesses to understand is that corporate governance is not about box-ticking or complying with regulations, said a senior accountant.

Rather, it is a set of ideals and principles that, when continually applied, helps businesses become more successful, said Jo Iwasaki, head of corporate governance at the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), a major British accounting body that has 140,000 members.
