Keppel T&T ties up with PCCW Global to expand data centre footprint to Hong Kong
KEPPEL Telecommunications & Transportation (Keppel T&T) marked the expansion of its data centre footprint to Hong Kong with a long-term collaboration agreement with PCCW Global, the international operating division of HKT, Hong Kong's premier telecommunications service provider.
Under the agreement, Keppel Data Centres Holding and PCCW Global will co-develop and market an international carrier exchange in Hong Kong, which offers connectivity-related managed services to facilitate interconnects.
The international carrier exchange will feature 1,000 square metres of high-quality telecommunications centre space upon its expected completion in the fourth quarter of 2016.
It is situated in the same building as the Hong Kong Point of Presence for the new 25,000km Asia-Africa-Europe-1 submarine cable, which is designed to connect Asia, the Middle East, East Africa and Europe. This is expected to be ready during the fourth quarter of 2016.
According to the independent Structure Research consultancy, Hong Kong's data centre market was valued at HK$4.8 billion (S$843 million) in 2015 and is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 18 per cent to reach HK$10.8 billion by 2020.
