SHARE buybacks are often associated with market downturns. But though Singapore stocks were sharply lower in March this year from the previous year, listed companies' appetites for snapping up their own shares appear to have faded.

The value of share buybacks last month came in at S$68.3 million altogether, less than half the S$164.8 million worth of buybacks chalked up in March last year, figures from a Singapore Exchange (SGX) My Gateway report on Monday showed.
