Passenger carriage in November down at SIA, up at SilkAir
Singapore
SINGAPORE Airlines (SIA) will be adjusting capacity to better match market demand, as its systemwide passenger carriage dropped 3.8 per cent year on year in November against a 2.1 per cent reduction in capacity. This nudged passenger load factor (PLF) lower by 1.3 percentage points to 75.7 per cent, while the number of passengers carried fell 1.6 per cent to 1.52 million.
In terms of the airline's regional performance, demand was weaker for Americas and Europe, with PLF dropping seven points in the former to 73.8 per cent, and 4.3 points in the latter to 69.7 per cent. PLF for West Asia and Africa was flat at 70.9 per cent. However, PLF improved for East Asia and South West Pacific due to better demand and capacity rationalisation. PLF was up 1.4 points at 79.6 per cent for East Asia and two points at 81.2 per cent for South West Pacific.
