Sembcorp unit bags 117 MWp solar project by JTC
SEMBCORP Industries : U96 0% (Sembcorp) has been awarded a 117 megawatt-peak (MWp) project to “solarise” interim vacant land and the rooftops of five buildings on Jurong Island.
The agreement is between JTC and a wholly-owned Sembcorp unit, Sembcorp Solar Singapore, and is not expected to have a material impact on Sembcorp’s earnings per share and net tangible assets per share for the year ending Dec 31, 2023.
The tender is the largest project by capacity awarded by a public-sector agency in Singapore to date, said Sembcorp in a bourse filing on Tuesday (Dec 12) evening.
The JTC buildings involved in the solar deployment project include the Jurong Rock Caverns above-ground facilities and Jurong Island Checkpoint, said JTC in a separate statement.
The project will increase the total solar generation capacity on Jurong Island from 25.2 MWp to 142.2 MWp, reducing over 63,220 tonnes of carbon emission per year.
As part of the tender, Sembcorp will also collaborate with JTC to develop a virtual power plant on Jurong Island – to integrate data from distributed energy resources, such as solar energy storage systems, and allow for energy management through real-time data monitoring, analytics, as well as the optimisation of energy assets, said JTC.

To expand solar adoption on Jurong Island, the project will also support solar deployment demand from an additional 12 Jurong Island companies.
Sembcorp said that it has been providing “centralised sustainability solutions” in energy, water, waste and land use on Jurong Island for over 25 years.
Other recent developments by the company include a 285 megawatt-hour Sembcorp Energy Storage System, and an upcoming 600 MW hydrogen-ready power plant, expected to be operational in 2026.
Shares of Sembcorp closed S$0.16 or 3.3 per cent higher at S$5.07 on Tuesday before the announcement.
