SINGAPORE has signed an agreement to explore the use of space-based very high frequency (VHF) communications for air traffic management in and around the Singapore flight information region, making it the first country to move towards adopting such technology.
The memorandum of understanding (MOU) was inked by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore's (CAAS) director-general Kevin Shum, president of satellite systems business at ST Electronics, Tang Kum Chuen, and Niels Buus, chief executive of nanosatellite manufacturer GomSpace, at the World Civil Aviation Chief Executives Programme.
