SPH Media Trust (SMT) and Japan’s media group Nikkei are exploring a memorandum of understanding in the second quarter of this year to enhance future collaboration.
In a meeting on Thursday (Feb 16), SMT chairman Khaw Boon Wan and Nikkei chairman and group chief executive Naotoshi Okada reviewed current efforts and explored areas for future collaboration, such as the sharing of digital transformation experiences and practices between the newsrooms, as well as the development of new digital products for local and regional audiences.
Khaw and Okada also discussed a project between SMT and data analytics platform Handshakes, which is owned and operated by artificial intelligence startup DC Frontiers.
The first phase of the project, which seeks to apply Handshakes’ solutions to enhance SMT’s digital news offerings, is expected to commence soon.
SMT holds 17.3 per cent of DC Frontiers’s shares, while Nikkei holds 25.4 per cent.
