S'pore bonds and equities stand out in region: report
Corporate bonds have outperformed their sovereign peers, says Markit
SINGAPORE's bonds and equities markets are not doing too badly, despite surging short interest and capital flight from Asian markets in recent weeks, said financial data firm Markit.
The Republic's sovereign credit trades at a premium to many regional peers, while listed corporate bonds have outperformed their sovereign peers, Markit said in a note on Monday. Sentiment on equities is optimistic, given that few companies see any significant short interest, it added.
Following the recent wave of bearish sentiment in Asia, Markit studied whether Singapore's fixed income and equity markets have been lumped with those of its regional peers, many of whom have seen surging short interest and foreign capital flight, said Markit analyst Simon Colvin.
