Surbana Jurong scales up with acquisition of two companies
SURBANA Jurong Pte Ltd, the renamed entity formed from the merger of Surbana International Consultants Holdings and Jurong International Holdings, said on Monday it has acquired two companies in Singapore and China.
These companies are Singapore engineering firm KTP Consultants Pte Ltd and China's Sinosun Architects & Engineers Co Ltd.
"These two acquisitions will immediately grow our staff strength by 25 per cent (from 3,200 to 4,000) as well as strengthen our infrastructure development capabilities in Singapore and the region," said Surbana Jurong group CEO Wong Heang Fine.
"It will also almost double our market reach in China to 16 cities," he said. "Both acquisitions are part of our growth strategy to expand our international footprint, grow our capabilities in emerging sectors as well as enhance our capabilities in undertaking infrastructure development projects."
Stressing that scale is key for successful international consultancies in urbanisation and infrastructure, Surbana Jurong chairman Liew Mun Leong said the group is well underway to achieve a staff strength of 6,000 within the next three to five years.
To tap the fast-growing industry of urbanisation and infrastructure development, Surbana Jurong's strategic focus is to build technical competence and scale by growing both organically and through mergers and acquisitions, Mr Liew added.
