Vard unit to supply engineering and electrical installation package for polar research vessel
A SUBSIDIARY of Vard Holdings has won a contract valued about 100 million Norwegian kroner (S$15.97 million) for the delivery of an engineering and electrical installation package to go on the UK's polar research vessel under construction for Natural Environment Research Council.
The contract awarded to Vard Electro AS by Cammell Laird Shiprepairers & Shipbuilders includes engineering resources to support the shipyard in the drawing approval process, complete electro installation onboard, and systems and products developed by the Vard Holdings' subsidiary.
The 130 m long polar research vessel, which is expected to become operational in 2019, will be equipped with Vard's SeaQ Communications system, customised for the tailor-made vessel and including remote management.
Stig Bjørkedal, Vard's executive vice-president of equipment and solutions, said that Vard Electro was chosen from a contest with global players, thanks to its vast experience with electro-integration in sophisticated vessels.
Currently, Vard Electro has installed its equipment on over 300 vessels, including complete systems for power management, propulsion, automation and navigation.
