Video kills again - this time 'on demand'

LIKE the 1979 song "Video Killed The Radio Star", video - as in video-on-demand (VOD) platforms that let users watch TV shows and movies when they want to, as opposed to at a specific broadcast time - is killing it again. Only this time, it is traditional TV (and ads) that stand at stake.

VOD platforms are Apple TV - a souped-up version of which was unveiled at an Apple event just a day ago - and California-based Netflix, which on Wednesday said it's coming to Singapore early next year. Singtel too, has got into the game with HOOQ, which will launch here in 2016 (BT has learnt), having debuted four months ago in Thailand and the Philippines.
