American Apparel's 'made in the US' heritage uncertain after Canadian deal

Existing American Apparel shops will continue selling clothes for the next 100 days as Gildan, which isn't buying any of the chain's 110 retail stores, decides how to make the products available to consumers.

AMERICAN Apparel LLC's made-in-the-US heritage is uncertain after Canadian apparel maker Gildan Ac-tivewear Inc won a bankruptcy auction to acquire the edgy fashion retailer for about US$88 million in cash.
