MyRepublic surprises market by unveiling proposed mobile plans

IN a move that surprised the market and analysts hailed as "premature", fourth telco hopeful MyRepublic on Wednesday unveiled its proposed mobile offerings.

It did this even before it won the fourth telco licence - spectrum rights of which will commence earliest in April 2017 - and said the exercise was more to gauge interest and solicit feedback.

Mobile customers of MyRepublic will be able to choose from two data plans:

i. A 2GB plan at S$8 a month (excess data to cost S$8 per GB)

ii. An unlimited data plan at S$80 a month.

Current and new MyRepublic broadband customers too, will have two options:

i. A 2GB plan at S$6 a month (excess data to cost S$8 per GB)

ii. An unlimited data plan at S$60 a month.

This comes after MyRepublic said in a promise last year that it would offer unlimited mobile data. Said the company on Wednesday: "We hope that these proposed plans provide some insight into the different approach MyRepublic looks to take should we become successful in our upcoming mobility bid, and our vision to transform the Singapore mobility landscape."
