US organic meat sales lag that of fruit, vegetables
Producers of organic meats and grains struggle with high prices of commodity crops

ORGANIC food is seizing shelf space in the fresh food sections of grocers but struggling to break into the bread and meat aisles.
Sales of organic products that farmers made to businesses including Dean Foods and Walmart Stores totalled US$5.5 billion in 2014, according to a US Department of Agriculture (USDA) survey of organic growers. The total is 72 per cent higher than the last time that a similar survey was conducted in 2008.
