FRENCH energy giant Engie on Monday opened its first Asian research centre in Singapore, which will focus on green energy as the group - formerly known as GDF Suez - makes a shift towards renewable energy in a three-year strategy.
Engie Lab Singapore will focus on three areas it has identified as key challenges for South-east Asia - micro-grids, industrial energy efficiency and gas technologies. Decentralised energy systems are a solution especially in South-east Asia, which comprises small islands that use diesel for power generation; the region also hosts industrial sectors that carry big carbon footprints, noted laboratory director Etienne Drouet.
