SINGAPORE's commitment to reducing the intensity of its greenhouse gas emissions will not be conditional on a global agreement being reached in Paris, said Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan on Friday, as he outlined how the city-state plans to do this across industries and households and in sectors such as transport and building and construction.
Speaking to reporters ahead of his departure for the United Nations' climate-change talks in Paris, he said: "The INDC (intended nationally determined contribution) we've put forward is one that we believe is not only achievable, but is also good for us. To a large extent, we can actually save money for citizens. So I think this trajectory we have set for ourselves is the correct one, and is one that we can pursue."
