SMRT executive, singer-composer honoured as Berita Harian Achievers of the Year

BERITA Harian, SPH Media’s flagship Malay language daily, on Friday (Nov 3) has named two people as its Achievers of the Year.

Now in its 25th year, the annual awards honour the contributions of outstanding individuals in the Malay/Muslim community.

Shahrin Abdol Salam, senior vice-president of strategic relations of SMRT corporation and managing director of Thomson-East Coast Line, is Achiever of the Year; while singer-composer Shazza is Young Achiever of the Year.

Shahrin, 50, has been an active community volunteer for more than 20 years. He started community work at the age of 16 and is now a grassroots leader.

Shazza (Shareefa Aminah), 22, clinched the award given to individuals below the age of 30, for her contributions to the music industry.

Mohd Nazry Mokhtar, editor of Berita Harian, highlighted that the award recipients have been role models to inspire the Malay and Muslim community.

Berita Harian plans to organise regular sharing sessions by the award recipients to share career and life experiences with our youth,” he added.

“We hope that this will be an opportunity for our award recipients to contribute to the community and be a guide and source of inspiration for our young people.”
