APPLICATIONS for SkillsFuture Study Awards officially open on Tuesday, and over 500 awards will be made available to help applicants deepen their specialist skills.

Each award is worth S$5,000 and can be used to defray the recipients' out-of-pocket expenses for supported courses.

The first phase of rollout of the awards, which kick off on Tuesday, will cover the gamut of diploma, bachelor degree, masters degree and even doctoral degree courses in eight areas of specialisation.

These eight areas are: built environment, air transport, internationalisation, maritime, financial services, social service, and food services and retail.

Up to 2,000 awards will be available annually as they are progressively introduced for the different sectors.

The award is bond-free and can be used on top of existing government course fee subsidies.

Interested Singaporean applicants and employers keen to nominate their Singaporean employees can do so via www.skillsfuture.sg .

First announced by Deputy Prime Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam in his Budget speech earlier this year, the awards encourage early- to mid-career Singaporeans to embrace lifelong learning and strive towards skills mastery.

They also aim to help employers in upskilling their Singaporean employees to strengthen their talent pool, enhance business performance and improve staff retention.
