ASEAN will deepen its trading ties with its biggest trading partner, with the signing of an agreement between the regional grouping and China to upgrade their existing free-trade deal - a pact that could boost trade between them to US$1 trillion by 2020.

Singapore's Minister of Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan, who will represent Singapore in inking the agreement, said on Friday: "We have confirmed that there will be an upgrade of the Asean-China FTA." Singapore is the co-ordinator for Asean-China relations for the next three years.
