Career fair to help Singapore national servicemen transit into workforce
ABOUT 4,000 full-time national servicemen (NSFs) from the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and the Home Team are expected to attend the Enhanced Career and Education Fair (ECEF) on Aug 15.
Jointly organised by Workforce Singapore (WSG), Ministry of Defence (Mindef) and Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), the quarterly event will be held till 5pm on Tuesday at the Lifelong Learning Institute.
The ECEF aims to provide more targeted employment and education assistance to NSFs, assisting their transition to the workforce. It comprises of two components - a career fair and an education exhibition.
The career fair features about 2,000 jobs from 30 employers across nine industries, including companies such as Citibank, ExxonMobil and Changi Airport Group.
This year's fair leveraged technology in various aspects. For instance, the NSFs' past course of study and job interest were taken into consideration to improve job matching at the fair.
Information such as availability dates and salary expectations are also used to generate personalised QR codes, which the NSFs may extend to prospective employers, instead of manually filling up application forms.
Those unable to attend the physical fair may access the virtual platform where another 6,000 jobs will be made available. The online platform will run for two weeks till Aug 29.
