Foreign construction workers with additional safety training to get lower levies, longer employment
FOREIGN construction workers trained in specific safety standards will enjoy lower levies and longer employment periods from October this year, announced Minister of State for Manpower Sam Tan on Wednesday.
This is in line with efforts to improve workplace safety and health outcomes in the construction sector.
The new framework comes amid deteriorating safety outcomes in the construction sector.
Since the start of this year, 17 workers have lost their lives in workplace accidents in the construction sector - almost twice as many compared to the same period last year.
