[KUALA LUMPUR] Malaysia's industrial production in November rose 4.7 per cent from a year earlier, better than expectations, data from the Statistics Department showed on Friday.

A Reuters poll had forecast November factory output grew 4.0 per cent from a year earlier, as falling oil prices pressure the exports of commodity products. Growth in November's factory output was sustained by the manufacturing, mining and electricity sectors.

Exports for the month rose 2.1 per cent, confounding market expectations for a fall, with the trade surplus at its highest since November 2011.
