MND appeals court judgment which turned down application to appoint accountants at WP-run town council

[SINGAPORE] The Ministry of National Development (MND) filed an appeal on Friday against a High Court judgment which had dismissed its application to appoint independent accountants to the Workers' Party (WP)-run Aljunied-Hougang-Punggol East Town Council (AHPETC).
In a statement on Friday, an MND spokesman said: "The Government cannot disburse public funds to AHPETC in the current circumstances, given the very serious findings by the Auditor-General's Office (AGO) and the High Court." As such, the MND has filed an appeal against the judgment on advice of the Attorney-General's Chambers.
