PRIME Minister Lee Hsien Loong will visit Putrajaya, Malaysia's federal administrative capital, on Tuesday for a retreat with Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak.

The annual leaders' retreat is a key bilateral platform for them to foster closer bilateral relations, said the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) in a statement on Monday evening.

The highlight of the retreat will be Mr Lee and Mr Najib witnessing the signing of a bilateral agreement for the KL-Singapore High Speed Rail project. The agreement will be inked by Singapore's Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan and Malaysia's Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Abdul Rahman Dahlan.

"The signing is a culmination of intensive bilateral discussions since the 2013 leaders' retreat, and furthers the good progress made by both sides since the signing of the memorandum of understanding in July 2016," the PMO said.

"It also demonstrates the two governments' commitment to the project, which will boost connectivity, strengthen economic ties and enhance people-to-people linkages when completed."
