PM Lee's medical tests at SGH 'all normal': Vivian Balakrishnan
PRIME Minister Lee Hsien Loong's medical tests at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH) turned out "all normal", said Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan on Facebook on Monday morning.
On Sunday night at the National Day Rally, Mr Lee was taken ill after feeling unsteady because of prolonged standing, heat and dehydration. After his doctors on site assessed him to be fine, Mr Lee returned to the auditorium to finish his speech. He later went to SGH for a full check-up.
Recounting the incident when Mr Lee had a vasovagal episode, Dr Balakrishnan said: "When we rushed up on stage, we found PM Lee fully conscious but having classic symptoms and signs - sweatiness, low heart rate and low blood pressure. The initial light headedness resolved within minutes, and I knew he just wanted to get back on stage to complete his speech. Whilst the initial tests were being done, he was busy re-editing his speech!"
Dr Balakrishnan added that Mr Lee later went to SGH for further tests, "which were all normal before calling it a night around 1.30am".
He said: "Let us all count our blessings, and continue to do our best. There is still so much more to be done. Hope PM got a good night's rest. He deserves it!"
