Police thwart second attack linked to Barcelona violence

FRESH after a driver swerved a van into crowds in Barcelona's historic Las Ramblas district on Thursday, killing more than a dozen people and injuring scores of others, Spain came under other attempted attacks on Friday.
The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the Barcelona violence.
The authorities, classifying the incident as one of terrorism, said that 15 people had suffered serious injuries and that the death toll could rise; more than 100 people were hurt, said the Catalan regional government.
