Shakeup in F1 may be behind Ecclestone's U-turn

F1 boss's tempering of his tougher words on Sunday comes amid change in ownership of the sport and question marks over the status of some race venues on the calendar

MUCH has been said about the Singapore Grand Prix driving off into the sunset but negotiations, it seems, are still going on.

This much was clear from Formula One (F1) head honcho Bernie Ecclestone's apparent Monday evening U-turn on comments he made earlier.

Clarifying that the motorsport was happy to stay on in Singapore, he was reported by The Straits Times as having said on Monday evening: "F1's stand is to hopefully continue in Singapore. Everybody is happy to be in Singapore and (we) don't want to lose Singapore."

He added: "Negotiations are ongoing and will be sorted out shortly... before the end of the year, I'm sure. We want to extend long-term. We'll see what happens."
