Singapore appoints new representatives to Denmark, Jordan, Chile, Papua New Guinea

SINGAPORE has appointed new non-resident ambassadors to Denmark, Jordan, Chile, and also a non-resident high commissioner to Papua New Guinea, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Thursday.

Karan Singh Thakral, executive director in the Thakral Group of Companies, has been appointed to represent Singapore in Denmark. Mr Thakral was Singapore's high commissioner to Sri Lanka and was a resident in Singapore from July 2013 to April this year. He is also chairman of the South Asia Business Group and Business India in Singapore, as well as of Givo Limited in India. He is a board member of the Asean India Business Council.

Shamsher Zaman, managing director of Linkers (Far East) Pte Ltd, will represent Singapore in Jordan. Mr Zaman also serves as a director and board member of Singapore Chemical Industry Council.

Chong Siak Ching, CEO of the National Gallery Singapore, will represent the Republic to Chile. She also serves as an independent director of Singapore Press Holdings, the parent company for The Business Times, and is also a board member of the National University of Singapore (NUS) Board of Trustees and Jurong Health Services Pte Ltd.

Meanwhile, Chaly Mah Chee Kheong, chairman of Deloitte Singapore and CEO of Deloitte Southeast Asia, will become the non-resident high commissioner to Papua New Guinea. Mr Mah is also the chairman of the Singapore International Chamber of Commerce and Sentosa Leisure Management Pte Ltd. He serves as the deputy chairman of the Singapore Accountancy Commission as well.
