SINGAPORE has endorsed a roadmap to fight piracy and armed robbery at sea, said a press release from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

The roadmap includes using data analytics to provide insights on past incidents, and a new programme to inform participants of best practices of enforcement agencies, international law, and foster cooperation in the shipping industry.

MPA chief executive Andrew Tan said that the threat of piracy and armed robbery against ships in the Straits of Malacca and Singapore have dropped significantly due to concerted efforts by all stakeholders.

Singapore is a contracting party to the Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery, a government-to-government initiative.
