Singapore retail sales up 2.2% y-o-y in Oct (Amended)

Published Thu, Dec 15, 2016 · 05:11 AM

SINGAPORE'S retail sales in October grew by 2.2 per cent year-on-year, same as in September.

Excluding motor vehicles, retail sales actually declined 0.3 per cent year-on-year.

The total retail sales value was estimated at S$3.7 billion, higher than the S$3.6 billion in October last year.

Wearing apparel & footwear, furniture and household equipment, computer & telecommunications equipment, and optical goods and books saw negative growth while the rest of the sectors recorded positive growth.

Motor vehicles grew 14.5 per cent, recreational goods came in second with an increase of 5.6 per cent year-on-year.

Amendment note: An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated that Singapore's retail sales in October grew by 2.2 per cent year-on-year, a slight increase from September, which saw growth of 2 per cent. It should be the same as in September. The article above has been revised to reflect this.
