THE committee tasked with steering the future of Singapore's economy will submit its report around December 2016, said Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat on Wednesday.

The steering committee's members will be announced by early December this year, added Mr Heng, who chairs the group. This means the process will span an approximately 12-month period - similar to the time frames of previous review committees.

Speaking to reporters after a two-hour closed-door dialogue with the Singapore Business Federation, Mr Heng shared that the committee will be focusing on the five "futures" of Singapore's economy: the future of jobs, companies, resources, technology and markets.

"These areas are all inter-related. If we have a strong strategy for each of these, and how these different strengths come together, we will prepare ourselves well for the future economy. And if we're able to do that well, we will be able to achieve our goal of creating good opportunities in Singapore and good jobs for Singaporeans," said Mr Heng.
