LONDON and Brussels clashed on Monday over future residency rights for millions of Europeans as Britain outlined post-Brexit proposals that included a special new status for European Union (EU) immigrants.
Prime Minister Theresa May fleshed out what she called a "fair and serious" offer to guarantee the rights of EU migrants in Britain once it has left the EU.
"I want to completely reassure people that under these plans, no EU citizen currently in the UK lawfully will be asked to leave at the point the UK leaves the EU," she told Parliament.
