AN election-watch party held at the Conrad Centennial hotel for some 800 members of Singapore's American community had started off on a high note on Wednesday morning.
Over coffee, doughnuts and apple pie, they stood in groups, their eyes transfixed to the TV screens in the ballroom, as the results of the US presidential election began to trickle in.
It was a partisan crowd at this event organised by the US Embassy in Singapore and the American Chamber of Commerce in Singapore (AmCham). Loud cheers and applause rang out when Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton clinched a state; the reaction was more muted whenever her opponent Donald Trump won in others. A mock voting station…
