Ex-1MDB lawyer Jasmine Loo arrested: Malaysia home minister
FORMER 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) lawyer Jasmine Loo Ai Swan has been arrested, Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said on Wednesday (Jul 12).
Loo was arrested on Jul 7 and remanded the next day, he told reporters. She is being detained for criminal breach of trust, he said.
The minister added that Loo’s lawyer told the authorities that she is ready to cooperate with the police and the government in their investigations into 1MDB, an investment fund that had billions of dollars siphoned off across the globe.
Loo is said to be a close associate of Low Taek Jho, better known as Jho Low. The fugitive businessman is wanted for his role in the 1MDB scandal, Malaysian media, including Bernama, reported.
Bernama reported that in January, the Kuala Lumpur High Court allowed the government to forfeit two luxury cars and cash amounting to RM22,600 (S$6,502) belonging to Loo. BLOOMBERG
