[LONDON] Fifa communications director Walter De Gregorio quit, as soccer's global governing body deals with investigations in the US and Switzerland.
Mr De Gregorio will leave his post as director of Communications & Public Affairs immediately, and serve as a consultant until the end of the year. He joined Fifa in September 2011, the organization said on Thursday in an e-mailed statement.
Deputy Nicolas Maingot will take the role for an interim period.
"Walter has worked incredibly hard for the past four years and we are immensely grateful for all he has done," Fifa Secretary General Jerome Valcke said in the statement.=
