A1 Alfa
The Alfa Romeo 4C has striking styling and kart-like handling.
IT is small, it is lightweight and rear-wheel-driven, and it looks sensational. But the Alfa Romeo 4C is not a luxurious mid-engined two-seater like the Porsche Cayman. It is more raw although it is not quite as hardcore as a Lotus Exige because the Italian manufacturer has positioned it neatly between these two competitors.
Inspired by the exotic 33 Stradale from 1967, the 4C has a 1,750cc inline four-cylinder engine located behind the driver. This turbocharged aluminium unit delivers 240 hp and 350 Nm through a six-speed dual dry clutch transmission to the rear wheels.
The power and torque numbers may not sound like much, but weighing in at just 895 kg, the 4C's power-to-weight ratio is amazing. The acceleration is eye-popping, especially when both driver and passenger sit so close to the road in a carbon fibre tub with a composite body.
