High profile for Singapore sculpture at Paris art show
AN unprecedented platform for Singapore's contemporary arts was unveiled in Paris yesterday.
Gracing the front steps of the Grand Palais in the French capital is Singapore artist Chen Sai Hua Kuan's Listening 2 - a 4.5m x 3m x 5m white steel structure looking like two round ears facing each other. Inspired by two tin cans joined by string as a primitive gadget for sound travel, the interactive work invites visitors to walk to its middle and shout into an opening to hear how sound travels.
Sitting smack in front of the classical building of the Grand Palais exhibition hall and museum complex, the work is an eye-catching, visual testimony to an unprecedented focus on modern Singapore art.
