A life of grit amid the glam
THE actor's life might seem glamourous, but what is it really like when they're not playing the role of their dreams? Singapore-based actor Yeo Yann Yann gave us a hyper, heady, but wonderfully honest glimpse into what life as a mid-career actor could be like in Actor, Forty.
It's a monologue written for her by The Necessary Stage's Haresh Sharma, and Yeo plays an actress who's just been cast in a contemporary remake of a 1995 Hong Kong film, Summer Snow, about a 40-something woman dealing with family issues.
In this monologue, the character is an actress who is expecting her first child at 40, and has to juggle that with her career and filming schedule.
